Amateur Radio Then to Now

A hobby that has directly help shape the modern world.

My journey with amateur radio began in the late 1950s. AM radio was mature and ubiquitous, while FM radio had emerged as a worthy competitor, offering static-free, higher-fidelity sound. Television was just beginning to appear in many homes, quickly becoming the center of family entertainment. At that time, there was virtually no public awareness of digital computers.

Amateur radio was exploding in popularity as a hobby — it was essentially the first form of social networking. Amateur radio operators were contributors to that progress both individually and within commercial enterprise. What a privilege it has been to witness this monumental progress in technology, which has now carried us into the exciting realm of artificial intelligence.
